What Is a Root Canal?

Root canals are common dental procedures used to help remove infections and decay from the centre of the tooth, also known as the pulp.
Tooth pulp is composed of nerves and blood vessels are protected by the layers of enamel and dentin that make up the rest of your tooth. Cavities can affect your oral health and eventually reach your pulp, potentially causing painful infections.
Root canals remove the infected pulp from inside your tooth, fill the open space, and place a temporary crown over the tooth to protect it from other bacteria. To help keep you comfortable, we use local anesthetic to numb the tooth before starting the treatment.
