Restore Your Healthy Smile

Infections, injuries, and other health issues can all contribute to tooth decay and tooth loss. However, missing teeth can also cause other problems including bite irregularities, bone loss, and shifting teeth.

Missing teeth can affect your quality of life in various ways, but dental implants can help maintain your oral and overall health for years to come. Find out if dental implants are right for you and book your appointment today.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are used to replace damaged or missing teeth. During an implant procedure, metal implants are surgically installed into your jaw, and artificial teeth, known as crowns, cap the implant to help serve the same functions as your natural teeth.

We may offer dental implants if you need a tooth extraction or if you are already missing a tooth. For multiple missing teeth, we may offer other restorative services like bridges.

We may not recommend dental implants if you have insufficient bone tissue in your jaw. In this case, we may suggest having a bone graft or using mini dental implants instead. Mini dental implants can help serve the same purpose as conventional implants, but they are smaller, less invasive, and can be completed in a single appointment.

The Implant Process

There are several steps we need to take during the dental implant process. While there are many benefits to having a dental implant, we must ensure the treatment is right for you and your oral health needs.

The Exam & Consultation

Exams and consultations are vital for determining if dental implants are right for you. During the exam, our team will take a series of x-ray photos to determine if your jawbone can support an implant. We will also search for other issues affecting your oral and overall health.

Our dentists will take the time to explain the entire dental implant procedure and answer any questions you might have. Once you are fully aware of the implant process, we can schedule your surgery.

Implantation is the process of surgically placing the implant in your jaw. Before the surgery, you will be administered a local anesthetic to help numb the area where the implant will go. Our dentist will then make an incision in your gums to access your jawbone before drilling a small hole for the implant to be inserted.

Once the implant is placed, our dentist will attach an abutment to the implant to help anchor the artificial tooth, or crown. You will need a few months to let the implant integrate with your jawbone before receiving the crown.

Crowns are the artificial teeth that complete your implant process. Each crown will be custom-made to match your smile and support your bite, just like a natural tooth.

When we install your crown during a separate appointment, we also provide you with a care plan for your implant. Implants are permanent, so it is important to treat them as carefully as you would treat your own teeth.

Caring for Your Dental Implant

Caring for your implant is very similar to taking care of your natural teeth. Depending on your needs, we may recommend a custom care plan, but most patients can maintain their implant by:

  • Brushing twice a day
  • Flossing once a day
  • Having regular dental exams
  • Getting x-rays to monitor jawbone health
